Do chickens need sun?

I am thinking about getting chickens and i found the perfect spot in my backyard for a coop, and a chicken run, but it’s a little shady! Trees hang over it and some sunlight peaks through trees. DO chickens need the sun to get essential vitamins like we get vitamin D from the sun? So in this case would I be alright to place the coop there or would i need to find a new spot?

Hey Margaret,

Yeah, chickens need sunlight to gain Vitamin D from it, but be careful not to have the chickens in direct sunlight, otherwise it may do them more harm than good. Building the right style of chicken coop is the key, if you ask me :-)

To build a chicken coop which attracts just the right amount of sunlight, you can find a free blueprint over at http://www.BuildAChickenCoops.com .

This shows you everything you need and the exact steps you need to take to build a chicken coop for your hens and roosters.

I hope I’ve helped :-)

- James.

What is the best treatment for mites/lice on chickens?

I just found out that my little flock of Silkies has mites/lice. They are little yellow crawling bugs, and two of my hens are getting pretty ill from it. They have had this last fall and I sprayed them with mite killer and gave them bathes, and cleaned the coop and sprayed that down too. Now they are back.

What is the best brand/way/technique to get rid of these things?

Could they be getting them from the mice? Or the crows?

How do I get rid of the mice in my coop, without hurting the chickens or my my barn cat, and using NO poison or sticky traps.

pyrithrin based powders and sprays are the best as they are non toxic.use the powders in the coop and nests.you can dust the nests and coop every month as a deterrent spray your silkies and with dusting the nests and coop should keep them free of mites and lice.what you described sounds like lice.they are little crab like creatures.they can be spread by mice and wild birds alike.put some predatory bird cut outs on your barn to keep the crows away or if you find a dead crow hang it near your coop.i know this sounds like an old wives tail but it works.with the mice you need to be vigilant with flushing their holes with water.move feed bins and flood their nests.make it impossible for them to settle anywhere.keep food and water out of their reach.short of this you need poisons and traps.good luck

Raccons are always in my chicken coop. It lasted two chicks. Any help on predator prrof my coop?

Coop is about 2 feet from the ground. Chicken wire is everywhere! Up, down, sideways. They have a big box to go in the night or day, that has a caged windows, shingle roof, fans. The Coop is about 10 feet long and 6 meters wide and 6 feet high. We made sure there were no holes anywhere woke this morning with a 10 "hole in the side with 2 chicken torn away. No blood, feathers or anything? You think it would have been blood I? I never ever did anything animals where I live. No deer, raccons, opossums, squirrels barely. You must only come if I do not look. The chicks are 6-8 weeks old and we now have 4 outside and 1 inside pocket with a baby turkey. They were still too small to submit to the outside be. The others were put out to buy almost a week. I live in western pa, if that helps. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Raccoons are actually very intelligent, strong and very clever, especially when trying to find ways to get food comes from. They only come out at night and if you ever see one in the day, stay away from him as it is probably rabid. By the way, I live in Western PA and I think a part of the problem is the population explosion of raccoons here in the past Years. My father, with a certain weariness, a very large raccoon led to a few hundred dollars worth of grub damage to his lawn in search of larvae in the ground, a wire trap left in the night with some food in it and the damn thing actually had the case on, picked up the food falling from the trap, ate and left … that's what I mean when I say they are smart and strong. So you can see what you have to do here lol. I agree with anyone who has any kind of repellent that you probably at Lowe's or Home Depot can be found said. And if all else fails and you have a strong stomach lol, you can try to catch them at night with a Trap and let them go somewhere else either (which I have to be careful as it does is illegal to do that in many places) or like my father did this and take it into the woods and shoot them. He did it, a hook and shot him but never caught the Great, all that has caused the damage.

Among the many well-kept article in Farmville, one of the most sought after the secret is to purchase Egg. These eggs are not easy to get what it all the more valuable. However, is there a way to increase your chances.

Well, this method will be expensive, so it's not for the beginning player. If you're not too far in Farmville, I have to wait to propose to you to spend a fair size farm, and many coins. Once you become well established, with a decent cash surplus, can you give this a try.

The first thing you need to – no surprise – is chicken. Many chickens, at least twenty of them. They want Chickens in all colors, too. Do not use chicken from only one or two colors.

You may have some chickens roaming in your yard. This is a good start. The work on filling out the herd, at least until you have the magic number of twenty. If you are not yet available, start buying them. See if you have a few as may receive gifts from other players.

If you have the full number, buy a chicken coop. This is the great effort, but it's worth the price. Even without a trial for the Mystery Egg, you will find that with chickens in a barn, the harvesting of eggs is a lot easier.

So now you have the coop. What They will do next to find a chicken ready to harvest and tape it there. Then, the remaining nineteen cases after it. So you will need twenty: This is so much how to hold a Coop is. And with a full Coop increases your chances of appearing fabulous Mystery Egg.

What this technology is, it will be to harvest all the chickens to enable all at once. Therefore, the first chicken must be ready for harvest. I do not understand that mechanism, but it works, that's all that matters.

Once you have all the eggs, clear, for cooperation, and this all over again: in a "ready-to-harvest, bring chicken, the others followed. Get all the eggs off, The Coop, and so on. If you are really determined to get a mystery egg, you can build another herd of twenty and buy another chicken coop.

Note that you do not appear likely an egg immediately. This method increases your chances but you have to keep with him for a while, with more than a coop. Earlier or later, however, that Mystery Egg to appear. In the meantime, you have plenty to sell eggs regularly, while you wait.

This is just one of many FarmVille secrets. For more, see my FarmVille Secrets Review now.
