What's Important About Commercial Pet Food?

First you should understand that the PET industry is not regulated like food. This means you can not assume a certain degree safety.

Animal food safety in the United States is the responsibility of the FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) under the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. The CVM regulates mainly animal food – animal feed, medicated feed, additives and animal drugs. The FDA "partner" with AAFCO – American Association of Feed Control Officials meeting – to their responsibility for the PET industry. AAFCO is a private advisory board. It is a series of PET producers and some government posts are filled.

Almost all packaged foods – both for pets and people – have a preservative to prevent rapid spoilage.
A the differences between the made-for-food and people-to-be pet foods that are used preservatives. Some of the preservatives allowed in food are dangerous chemicals. You are effective in extending the shelf life of foods, but they can shorten the life of your pet.

To avoid preservatives

BHA – butylated hydroxyanisole and the related compound BHT – butylated hydroxytoluene keep fats from decay and become rancid. BHA with hyperactivity, Liver damage and stomach cancer.
BHT is believed to cause liver damage and thyroid and bladder cancer.

Ethoxyquin is another fat preservatives used in pet food. It is also used as a pesticide. The FDA has banned human food contains Ethoxyquin, but allow for pet food. In the year 1997 has the FDA, manufacturers voluntarily reduced to the extent of inquiry. Studies show increases ethoxyquin kidney, stomach and bladder cancer. It is also linked to autoimmune diseases. Some manufacturers simply give it as "E" on the label.

Propyl gallate is used to obtain fats and oils. It was with allergic reactions, Stomach and skin irritation and kidney and liver diseases.

Propylene glycol is another preservative. It is already linked to kidney damage and liver abnormalities. As well, cats often get "hooked" on food products with propylene glycol.

Better preservative

The most common non-chemical preservatives are: vitamin E, tocopherols and vitamin C. Some of the natural / organic brands using Rosemary extract as preservatives.

Prior to grab the next pocket or able to turn it over and scan make sure, using the ingredients list. Your pet will be better without a lot of dangerous preservatives.

Dog and cat nutrition matters to their health. Many commercial pet foods fill the belly but compromise your pets health. DogAndCatZone.com. Better pet care with nutrition, herbs and Bach Flower Essences.

winterizing chicken coop?

I have an old shed that I have for my chicken coop. There is no power, and it's a long way from my house or any other means to contribute. i need ideas for my chicken to it through the cold winter in upstate New York, it's nothing below 0 temps and 4 meters Snow should see, I keep the yeard accecable or lock-in

During particularly brutal winter, when walking into the barn several times a day to break the ice waterers used in planning, implementing outdoor rated extension cords, what kind of heat source. I have a 120-year old Coop, which is not isolated, but I am lucky enough to have electric. I hang 250-watt lights over the brood nest boxes and potions for extra warmth. You will be surprised how well a breeding pair of lamps can be a coop warm! Put a thick layer of pine shavings and straw on the ground to help isolate them. You can also nest boxes up to Pallets to help them out of the ground and your birds get a little heat when nesting. Extra beds in the fields, and your birds huddle together for body heat to hold. Some birds venture into the snow, but most of our struts are races, and they will not set foot in the snow. The feathers get wet, frozen and can Frostbite cause when they go out. To help combat cabin fever with my birds, I will sometimes turn old bedding out of the door on the snow and throw some scratches, so they pick something to have on. Bored birds get used to cranky and peck each other sometimes – hence the term "locked up", perhaps? Their cooperation is not too warm and welcoming, rather than adult birds to find creative ways to keep warm are talented. I have a couple that at the beginning of my goats Castle found to warm up! However, I always measure the temperature there and try to keep a "hot spot" of at least 35-40 degrees for them. If Do not run extension cords, you can also try to use a safe barn heater (one that shuts off when deposited or) overheating. Make sure it is positioned where they do not sing their feathers can. A occilating heat fan works great – and because it moves, no one the bright idea to try it on castle. When I young birds go into the winter months (have my silk chickens would hatch chicks, if it had -25), I own breeding pen in a garage as well. The building is better isolation, is closer to the house, and I have to monitor it more easily, as do the younger birds. If you are) young birds (less than 6 months, you can find Alternative temporary accommodation for them. I am not turning my laundry room into groups of a brood, either! The previous owner of my property actually using an old wood stove in the coop, but in an old wooden house with combustible beds everywhere, I would not recommend it! Hope this helps!
