Are we ready to keep chickens? Some questions?
I did this last night, but unfortunately got no response. My mother has a friend who gives us some eggs, we can raise chickens. She gave a great and informative book that I read. They also gave us an automatic egg incubator and a gymnast. What do we need? I know a coop. Can you give me some sketches, or maybe pictures of your own coop? Are they loud? I know, are louder than roosters hens. Thank you to everyone who answers.
Chickens are relatively easy to keep cattle, provided you have a basic understanding of their health and nutritional needs. Once out of the incubator, you will need to go into a newly hatched chick breeding pen, feed them with chickens, starter grain, a small waterer and a breeding-lamp (preferably red, I use the 250-watt light bulbs). Chickens need a balanced feed, grain for digestion, crushed oyster shells for calcium, access to fresh Water and a secure building, are kept at night to prevent theft. You may need to fence in a run for it, if you have neighbors nearby – Chicken, you tend to wander a little when the free area, and your neighbors really do not appreciate them in their gardens. Before you get your eggs in the incubator, I would really recommend picking a copy of Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens. This is a great reference guide for new breeders, and it covers all the basics incubation period to adulthood. This book will give you more information than you'll ever find here! Coop Designs googling to try "chicken Tractor "for some simple and inexpensive design. Roosters can be very loud, but do not chicken anywhere near as much noise. But all chickens "Talk to each other" in a variety of vocalizations. It is actually quite interesting to hear how they get started. Good luck with your new flock.
