Chicken Coop Plans? Help?

My friend and I are trying to build a chicken coop, I have about 90 chickens, and they have really nice Stables, but we want to build our own for our own chicken … no easy / cheap plans?

I suggest to BYC and a Google search for cooperatives, henhouse, etc. Find what you like and draw your own plans. Do not be afraid to be creative. ;)

chicken coop plans

In selecting the chicken coop to build from plans you really need to consider more than just the look / aesthetics of the design chicken coop. Sure, important to her, a good-looking hen house that fits your entire backyard design but there are some other very important things in what you choose incorporated plans will have.

  1. Space. There is a certain amount of space that your chickens need to be healthy and happy. You need to be 4 square feet Living space per chicken. Therefore, a flock of 20 chickens will enjoy a 80-square-foot chicken coop. Do not skimp on space. In fact, it is better, more space assign, if anything. If your hen house is crowded, your chickens reduced quality of life and can cause feather picking, and in extreme cases can even cannibalism. This is obviously a result want to avoid you, so never overcharge your Coop.
  2. Light. You need light in your chicken coop and oviposition to stimulate. Especially if you want your chickens lay eggs throughout the year. As a rule of thumb, you should 1 light every 40 feet in you Chicken building. If you are just a small building chicken coop, it will be sufficient to a single light over the watering / catchment have. As a bonus, the light (e) a heat source for the chicks are in the colder months.
  3. Perches. Your chickens have a natural instinct to perch, so that you do with suitable perches have to offer or they will be on nest boxes, feeders bass and everything else around the Coop. This would be on these important fields covered certainly not in the feces, desirable result. It's as easy as with broomsticks for their perches. Again, it is important that the chicks have sufficient space on the perches such a rule of thumb, Allow 8 inches of perch space per chicken. To make it easy to keep clean chicken coop, some subjects slide under the perches Sun faeces get straight to them, you can then drag The trays out to clean it.
  4. Ventilation. Chickens sweat. Sounds strange, but it's true. Chicken Coop their ventilation must keep your chickens cool in the warmer months, and the chickens sweat to evaporate and escape from the chicken coop. You should ensure that comprise your chicken coop plans Ventilation in the form of openings in walls and small windows, but you do not want it to be drafty. You need a good balance. One way to achieve this is to Ventilation slots on the side of the chicken have buildings that do not want the wind in his face. This is typically in the east or the south. Thus, even fresh oxygen-rich escape air flow in the henhouse and the stale air and moisture. Chickens can handle the cold, but not wet so it is essential to the health Your chickens, that the moisture can escape.
  5. Nest box. If you keep chickens for eggs, your Coop must be at least 1 nest box for every 5 or have 6 female chickens. The nests should be comfortable and dark, so your chickens feel confident in them. You should put straw or wood shavings in the nest boxes and make the boxes at least 4 cm deep. If the boxes are not deep enough, your chickens fight and get the other springs. You should clean the nest boxes at all times shall remain clean the eggs. Hens should be trained not to sleep in the nest boxes, because if they do, they will soil the area with their droppings. You should no problem have sex with chickens in the nest boxes, you f your chickens have adequate perching space. If you find that to some persistent sleep laying hens in nests to do, they close at night.
  6. Protection. You need to keep your chickens safe from all types of predators such as foxes, coyotes, hawks, raccoons and rats, to name a few. The structure should be strong and no part of his position he should be pushed by one person. This is just the way I rate the strength of my Stables … Could I push past it? If not, then it is strong enough. There should be no way to get rats or foxes in your henhouse Kill Your chickens. Make sure the fencing goes all the way to the floor. You should also get the wire fences that the reason for the more than 1 foot from the fence. This means that if digs a fox on a fence, they will simply hit the wire mesh and will eventually give up or try something else. Using Mesh, that do not get raccoon may their arms through. I recommend using 1 / 2 inch square wire mesh wire mesh fence for all the chicken coop. This leaves your chickens safe, and it also appears very attractive. Remember, foxes are very clever so check your chicken coop plans to ensure they are predators proof.

If this six elements to keep in mind when you select or create your own chicken coop plans succeed, then you should go for the healthy and happy Chickens that lay the potential to 300 eggs per year each have.
