chicken coop size per bird

Deep litter chicken?

I bought a group of hens and a small barn and am interested in the bottom farming method, but am not sure it will work for me. The Coop is on the small size for the number of chickens I have (not my choice – they got together) and the floor is made of wood. The book says to do with a 4 "layer of chips and more each time above looks wet cleaning once per year. I really need a method that will not smell the does (do not we all?) and keeps everything healthy for the birds. Should I try this or just suck it up and just clean the litter every week? I'm not working Fear – I've done it before – and with my schedule I would much prefer to do a terrible chore slightly worse than 52 choir. I wondered if it is on The chicken is a part of the work, if anyone has any clues, and if I should pay something to tell me that it does not work (when you 'x' to see to do 'y' to repair it). Thank you!

NO you do not! The chips are disgusting by the time you have to clean it. Only be cleaned regularly (once or twice a week), then you will not worry about all the chips. So … when we sit for a long time the chips in the heat (I'm assuming they will have a heat lamp in winter), then it will probably grow flies / maggots. And you do not want your chicken to have to make in this . live Only clean the cage when its needed, and it will also save on chips .. and you are happy, clean chicken

Is it legal to keep chickens in my backyard?

Can I chicken / chicken in my backyard? I have a pretty big backyard and lots of trees and plants (none are poisonous!) I live in Bloomingdale Illinois founded and i do not know if it is legal to keep chickens! Is it on otherwise keep them out of contact with the Council of Bloomingdale? I have a dog, but he's OK with small animals. We were once at my uncle's farm in Wisconsin and its neighboring has many animals / chickens and chased it a bit, but he did not touch her. I also have a cat, but I'll outof cooperation and leave it there only if the Cats in the side view of my house.

Call your city zoning department. They will let you know. Most people have nothing against chickens in the yard, but They might get upset with a cock crows.

keep chicken coop warm
How do you keep chickens over the winter at high altitudes?

I live at 8500 feet. (In the Rockies.) I want a few laying hens, but I look all the stables to get a look at not very warm or lack any kind of total isolation. I do not have a barn or out buildings. Almost certainly will be my Man does not approve of my attitude in the bathroom either. Also, any recommendations for breeds? I like the Cuckoo Marans for its beautiful chocolate brown eggs. Layers of cold weather?

Yes, you need a robust coop to give them a safe place to sleep and lay eggs, but you also need some protection around the sides of the barrel, as a windbreak to act and to use a covered area for them to get out of the weather and in the dry when it rains or snows. The barrel must be reinforced wire mesh sides, 6ft high, buried to the grid in the ground to deter predators. A mesh roof may also be desirable to climb as a robber. I think you would do well to one of the many forums to keep chicken join if you're new here, as the people are very helpful and will advise you from personal experience. In Britain we have www.practicalpoultry.co.uk the awesome, and I expect there are others in the U.S. as well. It is nice to keep chickens if you know they are happy and secure in their run, but simply to expensive or heartbreaking make mistakes when you get it wrong at first. I would recommend that point was their first egg laying hybrids for birds – I have 300 eggs in each set the first year, and are docile and hardy. Good luck!

plastic mesh will work for a pigeon loft?

Yes, as long as you do not have any predators strong enough to break into it – this is the the wire will bend and stretch and keep all the strongest predators – the only drawback of wire. Otherwise, it should be fine!
