chicken coop yard

What on earth happened? Was all I could ask. We had built a Chicken Coop to mention teach our children about sustainable Life and responsibility (not the eggs!) And we wake up to find some missing.

We live in a highly developed urban area and built a barn in our small backyard, so we could not disturb expected, our chickens. But we were wrong. We had so much enjoyed our chicken coop and I was determined to not let happen again. This is what I discovered, works best to protect the chicks, if you live in a big city or on a highway.

First, it is important to build door to that a chicken coop, you can safely disable or close das. This ensures nothing can get in the Coop at night. The chicken will be OK, which of course sleeping in their nest boxes in the course of the evening. Creation of a secure door that can be closed or simply turned off will keep unwanted guests out.

Furthermore, it is important to set up a safe flooring system have. If you simply put your chicken coop on the ground in the dirt in your yard or garden, it is possible for a small animal trench through the ground and next, know what you give, you end up missing chicken. Something as simple as putting chicken wire on the dirt away to other animals.

Finally, it is important to secure the windows and other openings with wire or mesh. Thus, light can be in, but also keeps predators. Animals such as raccoons, not in a position, their little paws reach in and try a few eggs or chicken dinner.

I hope this information about building Your chicken house will help you in your chickens.

Howdy! I’m not a farmer but I sure do love my chicken coop. Not only does it provide a great family project, a source of entertainment and free organic eggs, my family and neighbors are learning about sustainable living and organic gardening practices. chicken coop floor plans

An important aspect that you do not absolutely out of your chicken coop, if you are planning to build, let and it is a sleeping place for your birds to sleep. Chicken not like to sleep on the floor of the Coop or in the nest boxes, but rather those "quarters", raised platforms on which they can cling to each other during the night.

This is due to act like chickens in the wild for reasons of security. A chicken in the brain is hard-wired, as a safe to a higher level Ground to be seen. It means, not predators, they can get that easily. In the wild, chickens often sleep on branches or other similar parts of the site increases. This behavior is also true in a closed environment like a chicken coop. Finally, your birds do not really know why they do it. Only that it makes them feel safe.

In this sense, it is not surprising that chickens sleep in the highest possible point in your henhouse better. Not Build Your nest boxes high above the ground, because it means that your birds will sleep in them instead, they make a lot more chaotic and difficult to clean tendency. Chickens naturally stools during sleep, you do not necessarily want to happen, where you can collect eggs! For this reason, it is also important to ensure that the neighborhoods that you rely on the same level.

If you build a multi-storey Roost, your chickens sometimes fight each other, to the highest to get points, and even if they do not, the birds at the lower levels is pretty dirty with chicken droppings during the night. A Cross-Design, where your sleep is in the bars right angle crossing, can maximize the space in your Coop and sleep at the same time, the solution of the problem of the struggle for the highest place. Another way to keep your birds to prevent disputes from around sleeping space, make sure it is about 9 or 10 inch horizontal roosting space for each chicken. Less space than that to overcrowded.

Regardless of how you want to organize your quarters in your Coop, the design should be just about the same. They want a kind of wood for the quarters to use themselves, though, what exactly is up to you. Dowel rods work well, although you make sure that it is thick enough to want the weight of all your chickens. 2 "x 2" planks or 2 "x 4" planks will work wonderfully. If you use boards, but you might want to round off the edges, as this makes it easier for your to take their birds sleeping platforms, while they sleep. Make sure that the wood itself is smooth as well, or get your birds splitter.

What can you do to clean your Coop is easier to put an easy-to-clean surface in your quarters. As already mentioned, chickens tend to much perform in the night, so make sure not to set up sleeping somewhere who want to keep, extra clean as their breeding grounds. Some people put a "litter box "in their nests, the weekly able to remove them from the Coop and clean. The chicken manure and bedding, you can use for a large to make mulch or compost!

Chicken tractors are easy to build yourself, but you need good Chicken tractor plans to ensure that it is solidly built and has all the features necessary so your chickens happy and comfortable. A chicken tractor is a kind of Coop, that protects the chicks from the weather and predators, but has no bottom, and it can be moved around the yard.

Chicken tractors are light and handy – some people even put wheels on one end so that it easier to move. The portability and small size makes it the ideal solution for just getting started raising chickens. Chicken tractor can build even cheap if you find the right plans.

To build a proper chicken tractor, do these nine tips:

  • Make the chicken tractor predator-proof by the choice of the correct size of wire mesh. It should be 15 mm ² on the largest.
  • The area of the tractor is held to be surrounded should be done by a fence with wire mesh. The base should be buried at least 30 inches below the ground to keep animals such as rats and foxes from digging underneath it.
  • The chicken tractor should be well ventilated, but the chicken should not jump into the wind.
  • Make sure to include roosting on the poles, because this is where chickens . Sleep
  • Place a nesting pair per box four or five chickens in a dark corner and a little off the ground.
  • You need at least four square meters per chicken.
  • To easily clean up feces, put a plastic tray under the roost pole.
  • Make the whole tractor to clean.
  • Place the food and potions in the tractor.

After a lot of research, I found easy to follow chicken tractor plans and built my first chicken tractor. We now have four chickens who are taking care of the yard by eating bugs and weeds. We also get fresh eggs everyday which taste so much better than store bought eggs. Visit my site to see the chicken tractor plans I used and how easy and cheap the tractor was to build.

Chicken …? :) ?

Me & & my mom wants to get chickens, not just yet, but when we move. We are in the planning to get them for everyone, such as egg, My uncle has a few things so that we know, very simple, but TBH we do not really know much. Who has advice on Anii Cooperatives, the right chicken, food. We are particularly interested in black rock hens, advice or anything we need to know about it …?

I keep chickens and have found this page http://www.henkeeping.co.uk really useful. There is a section specifically for beginners should it be of great benefit to you and your mother. There are also forum on it so if you have any questions, Henne connected, then probably the best choice. I think black Rocks and they would be highly recommended for beginners. They are a hardy bird, fertile plains and not flighty. If you want the tastiest eggs, I recommend you always Look at some of Marans. They lay beautiful dark brown eggs and the color of the yolk (according to their diet) is a real deep yellow / orange. They are good locations to but the only downside is that they are known for being broody. Happy to keep chickens, you will not regret it, chickens rock! :)
